ISB celebrates Yoga Day

ISB celebrates Yoga Day Students of The Indian School Bahrain (ISB) celebrated the third International Yoga Day with great fervor and enthusiasm on June 21, 2017. Special assemblies were organized to commemorate the occasion for classes from IV to XII in which students and teachers narrated the benefits and relevance of Yoga which is a discipline originated in ancient India. The programme comprised of prayer, followed by a speech about the origin of Yoga, its significance and a video presentation. Subsequently, the various benefits of Yoga for school children were enumerated, along with demonstrations by students of Std VI, VII and VIII, of the various asanas which are beneficial for students to overcome stress, stiffness, anxiety, improve concentration and combat obesity. Students were very excited to learn how to remain healthy and energetic and enjoyed the Yoga session. The students who volunteered to participate presented an excellent display of different Yoga postures. The programme was attended by Principal V R Palaniswamy, Vice-Principals, Head Teachers, staff and students. The solemn function was conducted and coordinated by the students of the school guided by the Physical Education Department. The Yoga instructor of the school R Chinnasamy trained the students. Later in the evening the International Day of Yoga was celebrated by the Indian Embassy at the Indian School Jashanmal Auditorium. Indian Ambassador Alok Kumar Sinha inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp in the presence of Chief Guest Dr Shaikha Rana bint Isa Al Khalifa, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA)'s Assistant Undersecretary or Arab & Afro-Asian Affairs and Organizations , Sri Lankan Ambassador Dr A Saj U Mendis , ISB Chairman Prince S Natarajan, LuLu Regional Director Juzer Rupawala, Shura Council Member Nancy Khedouri, Indian Embassy First Secretary Meera Sisodia, Second Secretary Anand Prakash, ISB Principal V R Palaniswamy and other dignitaries.
