Counsellors Workshop at the Indian School
The department of Counselling of the Indian School conducted a workshop for its teachers who deal with a variety of students issues in the Isa town campus. Teachers from LKG to Class 12 participated in the workshop. The Counselling Department staff, Discipline Coordinators and teachers who are passionate about counselling attended the workshop. Dr Anne Mostafa PsyD, consultant Clinical Psychologist and Dr. Anisha Abraham of AMH conducted the workshop in two different sessions. Dr. Anne outlined the road map to understand students better and in the right perspective. She emphasized that every child is different and allow them to be what they are. With unique qualities the child needs attention and care. The teachers who will be counselors have a greater role in uplifting the spirit of the child. Correcting a child is the way ahead; Dr. Anne Mostafa added. In her technical presentation Dr. Anisha Abraham touched upon various aspects of counselling and the behavior patterns of the students. She dwelled into the technicalities of counselling and what is the teacher’s role in it. She explained various stages of counselling and the different behaviour patterns of children. Dr. Babu Ramachandran from AMH in a brief talk appreciated the teachers for the multiple and challenging role they play in the daily life. He added that in the present context when the world is an open book and the children are exposed to an ocean of information. The teachers will have to steer them to their mission in life. He expressed happiness in the manner in which teachers voluntarily came forward for the session. He appreciated the efforts of the Executive Committee of the school and the administration for this innovative venture. The teachers who attended the session were thrilled by the content. The school administration added that this is one of the sessions in the series of training arranged for teachers in different skills. The aim of the Executive Committee is to strengthen the hands of the teachers who will take the school to greater heights. The event was attended by 40 staff members and the Hon. Secretary Dr. Shemily P John, Hon. Asst. Secretary Dr. Manoj Kumar, Hon. Member Transport and Discipline Mr. Bhupinder Singh, Principals of both campuses Mr. V R Palaniswamy and Mr. Sudhir Krishnan.
