ISB Celebrates Yoga Day
The Indian School Bahrain (ISB) celebrated the 5th International Yoga Day in association with the Indian Embassy with great fervor and enthusiasm on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at the Isa Town Campus. The Indian Embassy Culture Teacher Rudresh Kumar Singh gave demonstrations on various yoga asanas. “Yoga is a way of living that aims towards a healthy mind in a healthy bodyâ€, he said. “The art of practising yoga helps in controlling an individual’s mind, body and soul. It brings together physical and mental disciplines to achieve a peaceful body and mind; it helps manage stress and anxiety and keeps you relaxing. It also helps in increasing flexibility, muscle strength and body tone. It improves respiration, energy and vitality. Practising yoga might seem like just stretching, but it can do much more for your body from the way you feel, look and moveâ€, Rudresh Kumar Singh explained. Principal V R Palaniswamy, Senior Section Vice Principal Anand Nair, Physical Education HoD Saikat Sarkar and PE teachers were present. The Yoga instructor of the school R Chinnasamy trained the students. Special assemblies were organized to commemorate the occasion for classes from IV to VIII in which students and teachers narrated the benefits and relevance of Yoga which is a discipline originated in ancient India. The programme comprised of prayer, followed by a speech about the origin of Yoga and its significance. Subsequently, the various benefits of Yoga for school children were enumerated, along with demonstrations by 350 students of the various asanas which are beneficial for students to overcome stress and combat obesity. Students were very excited to learn how to remain healthy and energetic and enjoyed the Yoga session. The students who volunteered to participate presented an excellent display of different Yoga postures. The solemn function was conducted and coordinated by the students of the school guided by the Physical Education Department. International Day of Yoga, or commonly and unofficially referred to as Yoga Day, is celebrated annually on 21 June since its inception in 2015. An international day for yoga was declared unanimously by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his UN address suggested the date of 21 June, as it is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and shares a special significance in many parts of the world. The Indian School students also participated in the Yoga Day celebrations organized by the Indian Embassy on June 21 at the Khalifa Sports City stadium in Isa Town. ISB Riffa Campus Students and staff at the Indian School, Riffa Campus held week-long celebrations of the International Yoga Day. The programme was spearheaded by Indian Embassy Culture Teacher Rudresh Kumar Singh in the presence of Principal Pamela Xavier. He said that Yoga is a group of physical, mental, and spiritual practices which originated in ancient India. Special assemblies were organised to commemorate the occasion. The practice of Yoga will bring a positive change in mood and attitude, increased energy levels and the ability to focus on what is required by setting aside distracting thoughts in a student, he said. Yoga sessions were held in all the classrooms. Having geared for the days with dress code, mats and mind students enjoyed the specially tailored breathing exercises and tips for a healthier mind and body. The students were thrilled with the wonderful rejuvenating experience. The little ones were enthusiastic while breathing their way to an energising mind and body. The Indian School extended sincere gratitude to the Indian Embassy and Yoga expert Rudresh Kumar Singh for their support and guidance in reaching out to the students.
