ISB Celebrates Urdu Day 2019
The Indian School Bahrain (ISB) Urdu Department Celebrated Urdu Day ( Yaum-E-Urdu) 2019 in vibrant colors on Thursday November 21, 2019 at the ISB Jashnmal Auditorium in Isa Town Campus. The programme was inaugurated by the Chief Guest S.M Hussaini (CEO Almoyyed Computer Middle East) and Guest of Honour Mohammed Rafeeq Akolvi ( GSA Manager for Gulf Air Cargo, KSA) in the presence of ISB Hon. Asst.Secretary Premalatha NS, EC Members Mohammad Khursheed Alam, Mohammad Nayaz Ullah, Principal VR Palaniswamy, Staff Representative Johnson K Devassy, Vice- Principal Anand Nair, teachers and students. In his speech Chief Guest S.M Hussaini highlighted contribution of Urdu scholars stating that Urdu is “the language of love & unityâ€. He also highlighted the importance of Urdu and requested the parents to encourage their kids to learn Urdu language. Urdu has undergone changes and has incorporated and borrowed many words from Persian, Arabic and regional languages. S.M Hussaini congratulated the Indian School Urdu Department and the management for arranging Urdu Day in a grand manner. Guest of Honour Mohammed Rafeeq Akolvi in his speech congratulated the prize winners and appreciated the school and students. Urdu has been one of the premier languages of poetry in south Asia for two centuries and has developed a rich tradition in a variety of poetic genres, he said. Earlier the programme started with the school prayer followed by the national anthems of Bahrain and India. HoD Baboo Khan welcomed the gathering. The Urdu Day was dedicated to the famous Urdu poets Brij Narayan Chakbast and Jigar Moradabadi. The introduction of these poets was done by Urdu teacher Mahanaz Khan. This was the Grand Finale of the weekend celebrations which had many competitions for the students of classes VI to X. Urdu poem recitation, story telling, poster making and Urdu Quiz competitions were conducted. Apart from the competitions there were a variety of programmes such as patriotic song, national song and a humorous skit cum Qawwali, which was the main attraction of the programme. EC member Mohammad Khursheed Alam introduced the chief guests and also wished the students and teachers on the occasion of the Urdu day. He also thanked ISB Chairman Prince S Natarajan and Principal VR Palaniswamy for their support to promote Urdu language. The winners were awarded trophies and certificates by the chief guest.
