Indian School Celebrates Urdu Day 2023
The Indian School Bahrain (ISB) joyously celebrated Urdu Day, also known as Yaum-E-Urdu, in a vibrant event held at the Jashanmal Auditorium in the Isa Town Campus. The Urdu Department at ISB meticulously organized the program in the presence of ISB Honorary EC member Premalatha N S, Principal VR Palaniswamy, Staff Representative Johnson K Devassy, Vice-Principals, head teachers, teachers, and students.
The event commenced with the recitation of the school prayer, followed by the national anthems of Bahrain and India, setting a patriotic tone. Shahid Qaumar recited verses from the Quran, with translations provided by Fatima Al Zahra and Wardah Khan. Shadab Qaumar also extended a warm welcome to the audience, initiating a day that would be dedicated to celebrating the Urdu language and its cultural richness, particularly emphasizing the role of mothers.
In her inaugural speech, Premalatha N S eloquently underscored the significance of the Urdu language. The event featured an array of competitions held throughout the week for students from classes IV to X. These included drawing and coloring contests for younger students, as well as Urdu poem recitation, story-telling, poster-making, and speech competitions for the older ones.
Mahanaz Khan presented an introduction and progress report on the department's achievements. The program was dedicated to mothers, acknowledging their pivotal role in preserving and passing on cultural heritage. Patriotic songs, poem recitations, an action song titled "Maa Ka Khwaab," and a humorous skit added an entertaining and cultural flair to the celebration.
Head of the Department, Baboo Khan announced the winners. Trophies and certificates were distributed to the talented students who excelled in various categories. The Urdu Day organizing committee members, including Srilatha Nair, Mala Singh, Kahkashan Khan, Shabreen Sultana, Mahanaz Khan, Waheeda Rahman, Sreekala Suresh, Nanditha Devu Sunil, Sayali Amod Kelkar, and Sheema Attukandathil, played a crucial role in ensuring the success of the event. Dawood Ahmed conveyed the vote of thanks.
