The ISB Tops in School Olympics with 48 Medals
The Indian School Bahrain(ISB) has emerged as the overall champions in the 6th School Olympics, securing an impressive total of 48 medals in the private schools category, including 16 gold, 13 silver, and 19 bronze medals. Organized by the Bahrain Olympic Committee, the event saw participation from 92 schools across Bahrain and was held from September 23 to October 3, 2024, showcasing the extraordinary talent and dedication of young athletes. At the closing ceremony, ISB Principal VR Palaniswamy along with Physical Education HoD Sridhar Siva received the award for the overall champion school from Bahrain Olympic Committee Secretary General HE Fares Mustafa Al-Kohji. The ceremony was also attended by the Executive Director of Operations at the Olympic Committee Ahmed Mohamed Abdul Ghafar, the representative of the Ministry of Education,officials of the Olympic Committee and officials representing private and public schools. The School Olympiad seeks to develop school sports in Bahrain and promote the significance of physical education in nurturing a healthy and active generation. The Indian School had been the overall champions in 2018 as well with 53 medals.
The ISB girls' cricket team also emerged champions in the school games. The team included Captain Poorvaja Jagadeesha(12R),Parvathi Saleesh(6B), Anwesha Maity(9T), Rudra Kakkad(11D),Mahek Shaileshbhai Raiyani(12J),Jhaancy TM(11R), Anushka Aheer(12K),Leah Biju(11F),Faiha Abdul Hakkim(6J),Dharshini Muthukumar(11M), Aliza Imran(9T) and Gayathri Ullattil(11I).
ISB boys’ B team became runners-up. The team comprised Captain Jerrick Alden(9L),Mukesh Krishinan(9L),Rachit Raval(10Q),Nihal Sherin(9T),Karthik Bimal(9U),Jeet Sagar(9P), Sarveshwaran B (9J),Ayaan Mohammed Kaptan(10A),Gulam Mustufa(9S), Leander Muyn(9J), Abhishek Shine(9E),Aadesh Kotian(10A) and Jason Terry Philip(8Q).
In Karate, Rajeevan Rajkumar (10) and Joina Paul (9M) each won a silver medal, while Luthwaifa K.A (9) won two bronze medals and Angel Aabo (12) secured one bronze medal.
In Taekwondo, Manav Joshy (10V) won two gold medals, and Abhijith Vijayan (8D) and Aliza Imran (9T) each won one gold. Silver medal winners included Sreelakshmi (9), Benjamin Santhosh(9F), A. Aziz Faisal Almansob (8), Arya Anil (8) and Amna Melot(8N). Bronze medals were claimed by Thanmaya (6), Achsah Mery (6), Deepanshi (7), Nakshatra (8), Anshiya Kunjumol (7), Sreya Anil (7), Nedal Hameed (9), Sai Santwana (7), Ananditha (9), Mahek Shaileshbhai Raiyani (12J), and Anushka Aheer (12K).
In Badminton, Alen Thomas(9B) won a bronze medal, while in Boxing, Abdulla Ali claimed a silver medal.
