The Indian School Celebrates Punjabi Divas
The Indian School celebrated Punjabi Divas 2024 with vibrant cultural programmes organized by the Punjabi Language Department. The event was held on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at the school’s Jashanmal auditorium, and it was a grand showcase of Punjabi art and culture. The event was officially inaugurated by Principal VR Palaniswamy, who lit the ceremonial lamp in the presence of Senior School &Academic Administration Vice-Principal G. Satheesh, Middle Section Vice-Principal Jose Thomas, Staff Representative Parvathi Devadas, and Heads of Departments from various disciplines. The event’s coordination was led by HoD Baboo Khan and Punjabi language teacher Simarjit Kaur. The welcome address was delivered by Harshdeep Singh, a student from Class 10, while Kiranpreet Kaur of Class 9 presented an introduction to the Punjabi language. The programme commenced with the national anthem followed by the school prayer. Rehan Shabaz Shaikh of Class 9 recited the Holy Quran, and Amrit Kaur of Class 10 recited verses from Guru Granth Sahib. A Shabad prayer was performed by students Raman Kumar, Navjot Singh, Ikraaz Singh, Abhijot Singh, Jagjot Singh, and Maninder Singh. Amrit Kaur of Class 10 announced the winners of the competitions. This event marked the grand finale of a week-long celebration, which included various competitions for students. The competitions included Picture Identification and Colouring (Class 4), Poster Making (Class 5), Storytelling (Class 6), Poem Recitation (Class 7) and Essay Writing (Class 8). The event also featured cultural performances, with traditional Punjabi Gidda and Bhangra dances being the main attractions. Punjabi folk songs and poem recitations added further charm to the programme. Trophies and certificates were presented to the winners. ISB Hon. Chairman Adv. Binu Mannil Varughese, Hon. Secretary V Rajapandian, Executive Committee members and Principal VR Palaniswamy expressed appreciation for the efforts of the teachers and students in making the event a success. The organizing team included Srilata Nair, Kahkashan Khan, Mahanaz Khan, Mala Singh, Sheema Attukandathil,Sayali Amod Kelkar, Sreekala Suresh, Nanditha Devu Sunil, Smita Helwatkar, Vandana Syan, Aparna Singh, Mandeepa Mondal, Yogeeta Srivastava and Jooli Vivek. The school orchestra team, led by Raman Kumar and Pankaj Kumar, performed musical pieces during the event. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Amrit Kaur, marking the successful culmination of the celebration of Punjabi language and culture.
