ISB Badminton Tournament Opens with 65 Matches on Day One
The ISB @ 75 Junior & Senior Open Badminton Tournament began with great enthusiasm on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at The Indian School Bahrain’s (ISB) Isa Town campus. Held as part of the school’s year-long Platinum Jubilee celebrations, the tournament saw 65 matches played on its opening day. Over 350 players have registered for the event, with more than 400 matches scheduled across five days, culminating in a valedictory function on May 10. The event is sponsored by National Trading House WLL.
ISB Hon.Chairman Adv.Binu Mannil Varughese declared the tournament open. National Trading House Managing Director Dileep C Thaker, Bahrain National Badimnton Team Coach Ahmed Al Jallad, Hon. Secretary V. Rajapandian, Hon. Vice-Chairman & Hon. Member HSSE and Sports Dr. Mohammed Faizal, Hon.Member-Finance&IT Bonny Joseph, Principal VR Palaniswamy, Junior Wing Principal Pamela Xavier, Senior School & Academic Administration Vice-Principal G Satheesh, Junior Wing Vice-Principal Priya Laji, Staff Representative Parvathi Devadas, Platinum Jubilee Committee General Convener Prince S. Natarajan, former EC Secretary Saji Antony, former EC Members (Sports) Rajesh MN, Ajayakarishnan V, Tournament Director Binu Pappachan, Tournament Referee Shanil Abdul Rahim (Badminton Asia), Tournament General Convener Adil Ahmed and Coordinator Binoj Mathew attended the inaugural ceremony along with other BBSF officials.
The tournament is hosted in the newly renovated Jashanmal Auditorium, which now houses four international-standard badminton courts with impact-resistant PVC flooring and professional lighting. This major sporting event, sanctioned and supported by the Bahrain Badminton and Squash Federation (BBSF), is one of the largest badminton tournaments in the Kingdom. It has attracted leading players from Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait.
The tournament features 39 events, including Boys’ and Girls’ Singles and Doubles across age groups U9 to U19, Men’s Doubles (Elite, Championship, F1–F5), Women’s Doubles (Levels 1 & 2), and Mixed Doubles (Levels C, 1 & 2). All matches are being played in a knockout format, strictly following Badminton World Federation (BWF) rules, and officiated by certified umpires.
Cash prizes and trophies will be awarded to the winners in each category, while all participants will receive digital certificates recognizing their participation. The ISB community takes pride in presenting this tournament as a major sporting highlight in its 75th-year celebrations.
