The Indian School Celebrates Social Science Day 2026
The Indian School Bahrain (ISB), celebrated its annual Social Science Day, ‘Socius 2026’, on Sunday, October 4, at the Jashanmal Auditorium. The event provided a vibrant platform for students to demonstrate their knowledge, creativity and communication skills while exploring the theme of ‘Sustainable Coexistence’. The programme commenced with the national anthem, setting a tone of unity and respect. Hon. Assistant Secretary & Hon.Member-Academics Ranjini Mohan inaugurated the event by lighting the ceremonial lamp. Principal Santha Kumar Dasari, Staff Representative Parvathi Devadas, Head of the Social Science Department Shency George, Head Teachers Sreekala Nair and Salona Pius, along with teachers and students, attended the programme. Veda Pathirissery delivered an inspirational speech on values that transcend borders. The group dance took the audience on a vibrant journey through India’s rich cultural heritage. Shashankit Rupesh Iyer delivered an insightful speech on the importance of volunteering. Aamilah Shanavas and Aaliyah Shanavas presented soulful Gandhi bhajans, adding a devotional touch to the programme. Shriya Suresh proposed the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all those who contributed to the success of the event. Earlier Niya Paul welcomed the gathering. There was a display of model making (charkha making) and album making as a tribute to Gandhiji’s legacy.
As part of the observance, the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi was garlanded by the dignitaries, paying tribute to his enduring ideals of peace, non-violence, truth and social harmony. The activities were designed to encourage students to engage meaningfully with India’s history, culture, society and democratic values. A series of competitions were organised for students across different classes. The Speech Competition, held on the topic ‘Volunteering – Benefits for Individuals and Society’, witnessed the participation of 32 students from Class X. Shashankit Rupesh Iyer (X P) won the first prize, followed by Araina Mohanty (X Q) in second place and Devasree Cheerambath Susanth Kumar (X D) in third place.
The Poster Making Competition, based on the theme ‘India’s Cultural Heritage’, saw 30 participants from Class IX. Elina Prasanna (IX Q) secured first prize, while Sridharan Palaniyappan (IX F) and Steve Jude Davis (IX A) won the second and third prizes respectively.
The Quiz Competition, based on the Gandhian Era, attracted an impressive 272 participants from Classes VI to VIII. Ivan Subin (VIII G) emerged as the winner, with Jahnavi Sumesh (VII R) securing second place and Aradhya Sandheep (VIII G) taking third place.
The Model Making Competition featured 45 participants. Ayesha Fathima (IV R) won first prize, followed by Ryan Vibin (IV Y) and Karthik K. Prasanth (IV A). In the Album Making Competition on the Life of Gandhiji, Minha (V T), Angelina Laali Subhash (V M) and Muhammad Ehsan (V B) secured the first, second and third prizes respectively.
The celebration highlighted the importance of social science in developing informed, responsible and socially conscious citizens. ISB Hon. Chairman Adv. Binu Mannil Varughese, Hon. Secretary V. Rajapandian, Hon. Assistant Secretary& Hon. Member-Academics Ranjini Mohan, EC Members, Principal Santha Kumar Dasari, and Academic Administration Vice-Principal Rajesh Nair appreciated the commendable efforts of the students and teachers. They lauded the Social Science Department for organising an engaging and meaningful programme that promoted creativity, knowledge, social awareness and responsible citizenship among students.
